John was born in Tyrone, Oklahoma where his father was superintendent of schools. The family lived for a time in Austin, TX while his father attended U.T. Then they moved to Alvin, TX where they lived many years. They lived for a year or two in Arps, TX before returning to Alvin.
John served in the Navy in WW2 and in the Korean War, specializing in underwater demolition.
John was an electrical engineer. He worked for General Dynamics in Fort Worth designing the electrical systems of the F-111 aircraft. He worked for Dow Chemical in Freeport until retirement and specialized in power distribution. After retiring from Dow, he continued to consult in the same field until just before his death.
He was a life-long Baptist and attended church regularly. John had a quiet, gentle, loving spirit. John loved to fish, saltwater and freshwater, and family vacations often featured fishing trips.
John was married, and his wife is still living. He is survived by three daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
