George W. Ballard age 96 of Berea, passed away October 17, 2009 at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond following a brief illness. George was a retired farmer and employee of Blue Grass Army Depot, a charter member and deacon of Gethsemane Baptist Church, and active in the Tates Creek Baptist Association, serving as moderator in 1957-58.
George was preceded in death by his wife Rella OÂ’Neal Ballard, his father George A. Ballard, his mother Serena Anderson Ballard, his son Ralph Gene Ballard, and two brothers J.C. Ballard and Thomas A. Ballard.
He is survived by two sons William R. (Peggy) Ballard of Berea and George E. (Betty) Ballard of Princeton, KY, a daughter-in-law Betty C. Ballard of Berea; surviving grandchildren are Jo Ann Webb, Todd (Roxy) Ballard, Teri Spillman, Mike (Ann) Ballard, Katherine Ballard, Eric (Jodi) Ballard and Ellen Ballard. Nine great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild also survive.
Funeral services will be Tuesday October 20, 2009 at Lakes Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Todd Ballard, Mike Ballard, Eric Ballard, Jordan Spillman, Kyle Webb and Dr. Glenn Click. Honorary bearers will be Edsel Ford, Auston Humes, David Shehee and Ricky Abney.
