Burney Bumpus, 85, Salem Road, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at Gateway Medical Center. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Sykes Funeral Home with the Rev. Thad Collier officiating. A Masonic service will be at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be at Liverworth Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 3 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. Monday until the hour of service. He was born Sept. 23, 1916, in Dickson County, the son of Benjamin G. Bumpus and Jennie Scott Bumpus. Mr. Bumpus was a retired construction superintendent and member of McAllister Masonic Lodge. He served in the Navy during World War II. Survivors include his wife, Lena Mai Adkins Bumpus; a son, Rubin "Buddy" R. Bumpus, Clarksville; two daughters, Darothy Edlin, Clarksville, and Sarah Plummer, Cunningham; a sister, Ruby Nell Jackson, Clarksville; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Barry Bumpus, Billy R. Edlin, Charlie Edlin, Ronnie Edlin, Kevin Plummer and grandsons-in-law. The family suggests memorials to the Liverworth Church of God of Prophecy's cemetery fund or the Salem United Methodist Church's memorial fund.
