Charlie Jay Schagel, 76, of Prescott, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2013, at his home.
Charlie was born on the farm on State Road in Prescott, and was a proud owner and operator of Schagel's Dairy Farm, a fourth-generation centennial farm. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, fixing tractors and working on the farm. He was very proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Charlie is survived by his daughters, Vicki (Mark) Rau of West Branch, Kathy (Doyle) David and Pam (Tony) McArthur, both of Prescott, and Rose Shiel of Escanaba; his grandchildren, Christen (Travis) Ockerman, Michael (Jackie) Rau and Kelli Rau, Greg (Sharon) David, Jenny Schmitt, Deven (April) David, Janelle Brindley, Kelby Brindley, Hayden Brindley and Kenneth Shiel; and his great-grandchildren, Rayleigh Ockerman, Westyn Ockerman, Kenley Rau, Kyler Schmitt, Karter Schmitt, Kade Schmitt, Grant David, Gage David, Gavin David, Logan Denby, Vanessa Noffsinger, Michael Noffsinger and Nathan Noffsinger. Also surviving are his sister, Eva Mae Loomis; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sheila Joyce Schagel; his parents, Elmer Jay and Lillian Elizabeth (Cox) Schagel; his brother, Lawrence "Bud" Schagel; son-in-law, Troy Brindley, and his brother-in-law, Jack Loomis.
Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will be held Sunday, April 21, 2013 from 5-9 p.m. and Monday from 3-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at the funeral home. Norman Miller will officiate with burial following at Selkirk Cemetery [a.k.a., Churchill Twp. Cemetery].
