COEBURN – Hershel Ray Brooks Sr., 65, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at Bon Secour
St. Mary's Hospital in Norton.
Mr. Brooks was a retired coal miner of Clinchfield Coal Company.
He was preceded in death by his father, Cedrick "Ted" Warren Brooks, and his
mother, Effie Mae Robinette, brother-in-law, Aaron "Big A" Hall, nephew, Aaron
Steven Hall, and sister-in-law, Carol Markham.
Survivors include wife, Glenna Renfro Brooks; daughter, Deanna Pope of Coeburn;
sons, Hershel Ray Brooks Jr. of Coeburn and Scott Allen Brooks of Coeburn;
sisters, Loretta B. Hall of Coeburn, Linda Yates of Coeburn and Judy Ison of
Coeburn; brothers, Donald K. Brooks of Coeburn and W. Dale Brooks of Coeburn;
son-in-law, Robert Pope of Coeburn; brothers-in-law, Roger Yates of Coeburn and
Phillip Ison of Coeburn; sister-in-law, Betty Brooks of Coeburn; niece, Melissa

Funeral services for Hershel Ray Brooks Sr. will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in
Estes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Leon Lawson and Rev. D.J. Couch
officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Coeburn.
Visitation will be held at Estes Funeral Home Chapel on Monday after 6 p.m.
