At his request, there will be no services for Jack Barker of Bellingham. Mr. Barker died Tuesday, May 23, 2000, in Bellingham. He was 82.
Born May 2, 1918, to Arthur and Gertrude (Van Horn) Barker in Charleston, Wash., he graduated from Whatcom High School in 1936 and attended Bellingham Normal School, now Western Washington University, for two years. Mr. Barker moved to California and worked for Consolidated Vultee Aircraft in Downey. On April 28, 1939, he married Janet J. Haskins. He began working in the Supply Division for Safeway in 1953 and retired in 1980, after 27 years of service.
Mr. Barker was a member of the Lake Padden Senior Golf Group and once golfed three times a week. He enjoyed classical music and attending Whatcom Symphony Orchestra concerts and gardening and flowers. He loved golfing, fishing and traveling. When he became unable to golf and fish, he renewed his interest in TT (Tiny Tim) Gauge model railroading and had his own railroad layout in his basement.
Survivors include his wife, of the family home, and brother Ray Barker of Colville. Memorials may be made to either Whatcom Humane Society, 3710 Williamson Way, Bellingham, WA 98225 or Whatcom Hospice, 600 Birchwood Ave., Bellingham, WA 98225. Arrangements are by Jones-Moles Funeral Home.
