Hervey Charles "Chuck" Bratcher passed away March 29, 2010 at the age of 65 after a valiant fight against POVD. Chuck was born in Roswell, New Mexico on December 2, 1944 to Hervey Franklin "Junior" Bratcher and Glenda Mae Wright Bratcher.

Chuck attended Roswell High School. During his time there, he developed into a great athlete. He was a three-year starter on the varsity football team and took home All-State honors his senior year. After graduating high school, Chuck attended New Mexico Military Institute where he continued to excel in football. After completing his time there, he had multiple scholarship offers to play football and chose to attend the University of New Mexico. He graduated from UNM in 1969 with his BS in Physical Education. Upon completion of his college degree, Chuck accepted a position to coach football and wrestling at Goddard High School in Roswell. After spending a few years as a coach, Chuck began a new career in automotive parts sales. He served in different managerial capacities throughout his career at a variety of companies in West Texas and Eastern New Mexico. Throughout his time in sales, Chuck continued to share his love of football by coaching a youth football team in Lubbock. This passion for sports and love of coaching led him to purchase a franchise for National Scouting Report. NSR helps athletes obtain collegiate scholarships and provides an outlet for continuing athletics. In 2002, Chuck was the top national salesman in the company.

Chuck is survived by the love of his life, Lynn Kay Barnett Bratcher, whom he married February 22, 1974 in Roswell, New Mexico. They were married 36 years before Chuck was called home to eternity in heaven. Other survivors include 5 sons and their families: Jody Charles and Samantha Martin Bratcher and their daughters, Cassandra, Gabrielle, and Alexa; Michael Bratcher and his daughter, Ashley; Matthew and Tabitha Salas Bratcher and their children, Abigail and Elijah; Ryan and Julie Cook Bratcher and their children, Noah and Joshua; as well as, Benjamin and Kelsey Ivie Bratcher. Survivors also include a brother, Roger Lewis Bratcher and his children Tracy and Kara, and a sister Nadine Bratcher Nelson, her husband Bill and their children Billy and Bobby. Chuck also leaves behind numerous close relatives and a multitude of friends. Two of his lifelong friends, Billy Greenhaw and Jim Melson, will serve as honorary pallbearers during the memorial service. Chuck is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Larry Bratcher.

His family and close friends are greatly comforted in knowing that Chuck had received Jesus Christ as his savior and accepted the Holy Spirit as his guide. He acknowledged that his time was short and faced it without fear. After being reassured by his wife that their children and herself would be all right, he peacefully entered into eternity. We are excited for him because we know that, "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him (1 Corinthians 2:9)."

Viewing and visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. this evening at Lake Ridge Chapel, 6025 82nd Street, Lubbock, TX. Memorial services at 11 a.m. Monday, April 5, 2010 at Church on the Rock, 10503 Slide Road, Lubbock TX. In lieu of flowers, please make your donations to COTR Dream Center or the Chuck Bratcher memorial fund at Plains Capital Bank, both in Lubbock. The Dream Center helps people in need by providing vital resources which include food, provision, prayer and guidance into salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ.
