He was Bishop of Nevers from 1860 until 1873, at the time of the presence of Bernadette Soubirous in the convent of St. Gildard. On July 29, 1866, he presides over her entrance into the novitiate, on October 25. In 1866 he received her Profession in "articulo mortis", and the Solemn Profession on October 30, 1867.
