British Royal Navy Admiral. Born the son of General Alexander Fraser, he was educated at Bradfield College and entered the Royal Navy as a Midshipman in 1902. During World War I, he served as a Lieutenant Commander on the HMS Minerva providing naval gunfire support during the Gallipoli Campaign. After the war, he joined the Naval Ordnance Department became Head of the Tactical Division of the Admiralty in 1927, was Director of the Naval Ordnance Department in 1933 and was Rear Admiral Commander Chief of the Mediterranean Flight in April 1938. With the start of World War II, he was promoted Vice Admiral Flag Officer, 2nd Battle Squadron in 1942 and Commander Chief of the Home Fleet in 1943. Promoted to Full Admiral in 1944, he commanded the British Pacific Fleet and was present at the Japanese surrender at Tokyo Bay on September 2, 1945. In February 1948, he became Admiral of the British Fleet and was made First Sea Lord Chief of the Naval Staff in September 1948. He retired in December 1951, at the rank of Baron Fraser of North Cape and died at the age of 93. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
