United States Army three stars General. Born from a dynasty of military, he is best remembered for having been the Commander of United States Army North and responsible for homeland defense. Commissioned second lieutenant after attending the West Point Academy and the Infantry School at Fort Benning, he fought in Korea where distinguished himself for his heroic actions that earned him two Silver Stars and a Bronze Star with Valor. In the following years, Caldwell was Operations Officer for the 1st Infantry Division in Germany and at Fort Riley as well as tactical officer and commander of the Second Regiment of the U.S. Cadet Corps at West Point. He also took part in the Vietnam War during which was awarded his third Silver Star and the Distinguished Flying Cross for directing a audacious counter-offensive as commander of the 1st Infantry Division. After this war he was assigned to NATO in Belgium and Germany as Assistant Division Commander of the 4th and later the 1st Armored Division. From 1973, after his return to the United States, General Caldwell has held various important positions including those of Assistant Secretary of Defense, General Commander of U.S. Army Training Center and Fort Jackson, General Commander of 5th Army. During his career he received numerous decorations and U.S. unit awards including a Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Purple Heart, Korean Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation and Army Meritorious Unit Commendation.

He was in Company A, 34th from 1949 to 25 July 1950. After the battle of Taejon, he was transferred to Hq and Hq Co, 1st Bn, 34th, and on 1 Sep 50, he was assigned to 3rd Bn, 19th.
