FAYETTEVILLE - James "Jimbo" Brewington Acker III, 62, of 6937 Clarence Drive, passed away Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, who proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. He was born Dec. 28, 1946, to the late James B. Acker Jr. and Charlotte Marie Phillips Acker in Wilmington. Surviving him is a son, James B. Acker IV and his wife, Jennifer, of Virginia Beach, Va.; two brothers, George Curtis Acker and wife Lynn of Virginia Beach, and Mark A. Acker and wife Esther of Fayetteville; a niece Kimberly Acker of Virginia Beach; two nephews, Christopher J. "C.J." Acker of Fayetteville and Brandon T.I. Acker of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; four aunts, Mary Foxworth Seale of Fayetteville, Eleanor Deaton of Fayetteville, Julia Mulvey, of Fayetteville and Frances Coultrane of Stuarts Draft, Va.; two uncles, John Phillips and wife Carol of Washington, and Pete Phillips and wife Sumiko of Dayton, Ohio; and numerous cousins. A memorial service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, in St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Fayetteville with Dr. Gerry G. Davis officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Andrews United Methodist Church, 121 Lofton Drive, Fayetteville, NC 28311. Services entrusted to Rogers and Breece Funeral Home of Fayetteville.
