EDDYVILLE JOURNALIST, WRITER BROWN DIES.
Eddyville, Ia.—Frank D. Brown, a local journalist and former owner of the Eddyville Tribune, died of a coronary embolism Friday at Mahaska County Hospital in Oskaloosa.
Services for Mr. Brown, 74, of Eddyville will be at 1:30 pm. Tuesday at Garland-Van Arjek-Langkamp Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa. Burial will be a Coal Creek Cemetery in Mahaska County.
Mr. Brown was born in Lovillia and had lived in Eddyville for many years. He bought the Eddyville Tribune in 1950 and was the owner and operator of the paper for nearly 25 years. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Eddyville United Methodist Church, the Disabled American Veterans and was involved with the Boy Scouts of America.
He wrote a history of Eddyville and won a community betterment award for a summary of that history. He had two books published, "Tales of Old Eddyville" in1967 and "A Laugh A Day" in 1988.
Among survivors are his wife, Lavon; two sons, Larry of Iowa City and Terry of Washington, D.C.; a daughter, Jannes Gordon of Ottumwa; his mother, Gladys Brown of Oskaloosa; four brothers, John of Marion, Harry of Oskaloosa, Walter of Colfax and Kenneth of Grinnell; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends may call after 1 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Mahaska County of the Eddyville Community Building Fund.
