Dan, or Pa Pa, was the ninth of fourteen children born to Jeffie and Inerree Brown. He and his siblings had a hard childhood working as the children of sharecroppers during the Depression. Pa Pa used to tell a story about his daddy nailing tin plates to the table, one for each person in the family. No one got a new plate until they'd sopped the heads off the nails. Pa Pa quit school after eighth grade to help full time with the farming. After WWII, several of the Brown siblings moved to Phenix City, AL and Columbus, GA to work in the textile mills. Dan worked for Lummus Industries for over 29 years, until he had to retire due to health problems.
Dan married Helen Williams on 4 September 1948. They were married 59 years before he passed away. Dan and Helen always lived in Phenix City and worked in the textile mills together. They had two children: Jenny and Danny.
Pa Pa was a member of Auburn Heights Baptist Church in Phenix City. He always had a dog and a pick-up truck, and kept a vegetable garden until he was no longer able. He gave good hugs and liked to tell of funny family moments that no one else could remember. He also liked Western movies and painted many a house in his time.
Dan Brown is loved, missed, and fondly remembered by his wife, two children, four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many other friends and relatives.
