Emma was the family maverick. She was well educated ahead of her time. She was an early advocate for women's rights. She was involved in education all her life and was best known for "Miss Gibbons' School" for children with learning disabilities. She was active in organizations connected to the history of the Niagara Frontier and helped restore Fort Erie and Fort Niagara.
