Luther Thomas Morrison--Obituary

Graveside services for Luther Thomas Morrison, 81, of Mangum, Okla., will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Kress Cemetery with the Rev. Don Robertson, pastor of College Heights Baptist Church in Plainview, officiating.

Mr. Morrison died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, in Clinton, Okla.

He was born Oct. 22, 1918, in Montague where he grew up and attended school, graduating from Montague High School.

He served in World War II from June 4, 1942, until Sept. 8, 1945, in the 1045th Army Air Forces Base Unit, attaining the rank of sergeant. He was an airplane mechanic and received numerous awards including an EAME Campaign Medal with Seven Bronze Stars, a Good Conduct Medal, and Distinguished Unit Badge with one Oak Leaf Cluster.

After his discharge, he moved to Dimmitt and worked as a carpenter and in cotton gins.

He married Betty Ragland on March 10, 1951. She died July 2, 1999. He moved to Mangum in 1964 and to Kress in 1984, then back to Mangum in 1999.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Mangum.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Donna Morrison of Mangum; his stepmother, Sarah Elizabeth Morrison of Mangum, Okla.; one brother, Paul Morrison and wife Marie of Mangum; five grandchildren, Mark Morrison of Pampa, Troy Myer and wife Erma of O´Donnell, Chris Roberts and wife Janette of Tushka, Okla., Sherry Musser and husband Eric of Cottageville, S.C., Jennifer Musser and husband Johnny of Mangum, Okla.; and 14 great-grandchildren.

His father, Henry Joseph Morrison; his mother, Elizabeth Morrison, and a brother, H.M. "Nig" Morrison, are deceased.

Pallbearers will be Charlie Lovett, Harvey Moore, Jerry Walker, J.R. Beal, Ronnie Austin, Andy Beal and Dale Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Harper, B.J. Harper, Phillip Issac and Jason Issac.
