Mr. John Leslie Ambrose, age 88 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Monday, March 2, 2009, at the Heisinger Bluffs Retirement Center. John was born March 23, 1920, in Russellville, Mo., the son of John Franklin and Blanche V. Leslie Ambrose, both deceased. He was married on November 17, 1946, in Jefferson City, Mo. to Betty L. Hunt who survives at the home.

He was a life long resident of the Jefferson City area. He was a 1938 graduate of Jefferson City High School and attended Jefferson City Junior College. John served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II in the South Pacific. He was employed with Exchange National Bank for 43 years prior to his retirement as a vice-president in 1982. He was a member of the First Baptist Church; a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Roy Sone Post 1003; and a member of the American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5.

Other survivors include: two sons, Thomas Hunt Ambrose and his wife, Joan of Wilmette, Illinois and Dr. William Leslie Ambrose and his wife Becky of Jefferson City, Mo.; one sister, Ruby Stockton and her husband, Robert of Emporia, Kansas; four grandchildren, Whitney L. Ambrose, Elliott W. Ambrose, Daniel P. Ambrose, and Sarah V. Ambrose. He was preceded in death by one brother, Winston Wayne Ambrose and one sister, Eileen Ambrose Hamill.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2009, in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Doyle Sager officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be conducted at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Jefferson City. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary. www.freemanmortuary.com
