Otto J Kannengeisser was born in Germany the 17th day of October, 1850. He came to Hespeler, Ont., Canada, with his parents at 4 years of age. In 1872 he was united in marriage to Jane Fairbrother. The couple had four children, Minnie (1872), Charles (1875), Clara (1877) and Alice (1880). Jane died March 11, 1884 following a two year battle with tuberculous. In December 1885, Otto and his children joined his parents and siblings near Canada, Kansas in rural Marion County. On July 20, 1886, he married Martha Hope Fairbrother, the widow of his wife's brother, making a rather unusual family when first cousins became step-siblings. The couple completed their family with three more children, Albert, Bertha and Myrtle. Both of Otto's sons died early, Charles in 1888 and Albert in 1911. They are also buried nearby.
