PHILA, wife of Ebenezer Adsit, departed this life February 23d, 1860, at her residence in Orwell, Oswego Co., N.Y., aged 42 years. Sister Adsit was born March 15th, 1817, in the town of Denmark, Lewis Co., N.Y., where she resided with her parents, being subject to them in all things, until at the age of about nine years, she removed with her father (Mr. Solomon Farwell,) to Chautauqua Co., where she resided until, at the age of seventeen, she returned to Jefferson Co., where, in the town of Lorraine, in a protracted effort of the people of God for the revival of his work, she found the pearl of great price, when she passed from death into life, and proved the depths of sovereign mercy to save a lost but penitent sinner. She immediately cast in the her lot with the people of God, and united with the M. E. Church, of which she ever remained a consistent and faithful member, until transferred to the Church triumphant. During the last year, she was led by the hand of providence to drink deep of the cup of affliction, her eldest daughter preceding her to the spirit world but one year and three days, and an eldest son also in the month of July, at which time the hectic ___ told full well that that fatal disease, consumption, had marked the mother for its victim; but it did not find her unprepared, for she had lived many years in reference to this hour. She went down to the grave as the sun sinks to rest, sending back a light and a glory that will not soon be effaced. She has left a husband and four children to mourn and an irreparable loss. She was a kind companion, and indulgent mother, a faithful Christian, and an amiable friend. In her the Church has lost a faithful member, and society an ornament. And may her husband in children follow the faithful pattern of devoted wife and mother, and meet her on the other shore.
Orwell, March 21, 1860.
