Réal (Ray) Bourdage

Réal (Ray) Bourdage, 73, of 8 Church St. died at 9:10p.m. Thursday, May 23 at the Adirondack Medical Center at Saranac Lake, where he had been a patient since May 13. He had been in failing health for some time.

He was born al Watertown, N. Y. on March 26, 1918, a son of Isaac and Celina St. Louis Bourdage, and attended Holy Ghost Academy, graduating in 1934. Thereafter he attended Cornell University at Ithaca, where he was a member of the University marching band.

On June 19, 1941 he was married at St. Joseph's Chapel here by the late Msgr. Edward O. Hervieux to Natalie Boyer, who survives him.

In partnership with Hubert Mayotte he owned and operated the B. & M. Sports Shop here, and thereafter he was employed by Niagara Mohawk as operator at its Piercefield hydroelectric generating plant until his retirement in 1980 after 26 years' service.

A talented musician, he was one of the original members of the Waukesha Grill band, a favorite entertainment and dance band for many years, and his solo clarinet and sax renditions of the old jazz favorites of the Big Band era in concerts in recent years brought standing ovations. Mr. Bourdage was active in the Tupper Lake Fire Department and its marching band for many years, and was a member of Company 5, retired firemen. He was also an honorary member of the River Ridge Hunting Club and the Follensby Hunting Club, and was an avid fly fisherman.

Surviving, besides his wife, are a daughter, Mrs. James (Cynthia) Bisson, Tupper Lake; two sons, Phillip Bourdage of Penfield, N. Y. and Gerald Bourdage of Potsdam; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A Mass of the resurrection was celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Alphonsus Church and interment was in St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Friends who wish to make memorial contributions may make such arrangements through the Richer Funeral Home.
