Los Angeles County

Born to Robert Lincoln and Alice Nadine(Moser) Fielding in Los Angeles, CA. Leland was raised in Los Angeles, CA his entire childhood around 120th Street. His parents owned a home with acreage. He graduated from George Washington High School. His nick name was "Gretta," referring to the movie star Gretta Garbou because he had the perfect looking legs. He was shot in the bottom side with an arrow while staring at the girls during Archery Class. This never changed. His statement was, I'm not dead, I can look, just not touch.
In 1948 he married Anna May Shockley. They met at West Athens Community Church. They had 3 children, Baby Fielding, Leland Donald Fielding Jr, and Patricia Ann Fielding.
My Dad was in the US Army as a paratrooper in the 82 Airbourn Division. He jumped on the banks of Normandy during WWII.He had many metals and things on his Army jacket. Someone broke into our house and stole all his metals off of his jacket and his Paratrooper ring. I still have the jacket though.
My Dad had several jobs in his career. First, he was a Dad. I'm so thankful for the testimony he lived so my brother, myself and my Mom could see what surrendering to God in your life was all about. He lived "Salvation" to us.He was our living example.
He bought a Shell Gas Station which didn't work out.He worked at the Shell Oil Refinery until he became an Electrician and worked for Mack. All this time God was calling him to be in Gods Ministry of some kind. One day he was so very sick and his boss Mack said, Leland why don't you just give it up to God before he takes you home because of your disobedience. At that point, he surrendered to God, Sold our home and moved to Springfield, Missouri where he attended Baptist Bible College for 3 years. He Pastored Capitol City Bible Baptist Church in Rio Linda for 8 years. During this time he also went to Oregon State Teachers College and pulled mobile homes for a living. We are forever grateful to Curtis Wylie Pastor of Grace Baptist Church for his kindness and generosity for taking us in and giving us a place to stay and my Dad a job, in the transition from Missouri to Sacramento. He got his Teaching Credentials from Oregon State Teachers College thru the encouragement of O C Harris, his pastorial friend. He taught 4-6th grades at Bell Avenue School in Sacramento, CA 1970 - 1982 when he was diagonsed with esophagus cancer.
Easter, April 3, 1983 my Dad lead singing at our small church. The next Sunday morning, our Pastor Norman Crawley carried him to the car and into Kaiser Hospital Sacramento. No one is ever ready for their loved one to leave. Even when you know they're going to Heaven. That night was hard. Pastor Crawley never left his side, Bro. Wylie came while he was still here. I saw the Angel in the corner of the room when it was time for him to go. Not long after that his body organs gave out. The nurse had told me before it happened that his spirit was gone....How did she know that? Well, I do know he is in Heaven with his Heavenly Father, his earthly Father, his Brother Link, and his Grandson Leland. I'm looking forward to being together again.
