Birth: 1840
Berrysburg
Dauphin County
Pennsylvania, USA
Death: Nov. 29, 1861
Ohio, USA

Isaac P. Messner enlisted as a private in Co. B, 9th Pa. Vol. Cavalry, was detailed by his company to feed the horses as they were floating down the Ohio River on a flat boat, was kicked overboard, and drowned, 29 Nov., 1861. His death was ruled to have ocured in the line of duty, and his widow, and his daughter were entitled to a pension, thus creating records for searching genealogists. He is buried in Bowerman's (St. Paul's) Lutheran and Reformed Church Cemetery, located in Enterline, Dauphin County, PA. The above information researched by Ret. Col. Joseph Barnes through Civil War records of the time. Isaac is one of 10 Civil War veterans buried in the cemetery, as evidence from the tombstone markers in existence in 1998.
