Death: Mar. 3, 1992

Birth and baptism dates are extracted from the records of the Armstrong Valley Charge, Bowerman's St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran and Reformed Church, located in Enterline, Wayne Twp., Dauphin county, PA. Original records are stored in the Reformed Church Archives, located at Franklin and Marshall College, in Lancaster, Lancaster county, PA. Cornelius's name and birth date are also noted in the Hoffman Family bible, now in the possession of niece Arla Bowman, of Halifax, granddaughter of Aaron Hoffman. Cornelius owned a large farm and tract of land in Wayne Township. He and wife Verna (Sheetz) were married for 69 years. In 1988 when the Hoffmans celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary, a dinner was held in their honor in Harrisburg, where State Senator John J. Shumaker presented them with a Senate citation. This celebration announcement, along with a photo of the couple, was placed in the UPPER DAUPHIN SENTINEL newspaper, Millersburg, PA. All of their children were named in this article. When "Corney" (as he was referred to in life) died, his obituary noted that he was retired as a car repairman for the Pennsylvania Railroad, and from farming. He was a very active member of Bowerman's St. Paul's Church most of his life, where he was confirmed into the Reformed Faith on Nov. 20, 1916. Later he held the office of church Elder; first being ordained August 22, 1954, and then holding that post until 1968. This information was also found in the Bowerman Church records. Later when he and his wife sold the farm and moved into Halifax, he transferred his membership to Valley's United Church of Christ (formerly Trinity). He was a member of the Halifax Area Senior Citizens, the Susquehanna Lodge No. 364, Millersburg, Harrisburg Consistory, and Zembo Temple Shrine. This later information was taken from his obituary. On a personal note he and his brother Albert were very close and were great "fishing buddies", spending many hours out on the Susquehanna River together. Cornelius died at home from a heart attack. He is interred next to his wife Verna at Bowerman's St. Paul's Lutheran and Reformed Church cemetery, located in Enterline, Powells Valley, Wayne Twp., Dauphin county, PA.
