Born in Portland, Oregon, Mike is the oldest child of Terry Kelly Gilham and Lula Mae Moore Gilham. He was a freshman at Benson Poly, a sophomore at Cleveland and graduated Jr/Sr from Milwaukie High. He took many classes at PCC and PSU.
Mike served in the Army in Vietnam from 12/5/1967 until 7/26/1969. He was an aircraft maintenance Crew Chief and achieved an SB5/E5 rank. Mike was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Air Medal for his service. While stationed in Vietnam, Mike had a pet boa constrictor which he unfortunately was not allowed to bring back to the states. After an incredible 31 year relationship, Mike and Linda married 7/6/2013.
Mike was owner/operator of Columbia Steam Cleaning servicing restaurants in the Northwest for over 30 years.
Mike was an avid outdoorsman. He loved camping, fishing, hunting, and especially boating. Mike and Linda belonged to Tyee Yacht Club since 2000. Mike spent 3 years on the board of managers and held the position of Official Club Cannoneer for 10 years. Mike and Linda spent several years serving as Club Cruise Chairs and Club Social Chairs.
Mike's survivors include his wife Linda; stepson Michael Donovan; and sister Carolyn Howell of Reno, NV. He is also survived by an aunt, nephews, nieces, cousins and countless friends. He was predeceased by his father Terry, mother Lula Mae and sister Janet Jewell.
There will be a graveside service with Military Honors on Thursday, December 19, 2013at 1:00pm at Willamette National Cemetery, 1180 SE Mt. Scott Blvd, Portland, OR 97266. Please check in at the front office 20 minutes before the service for directions to the shelter.
In addition, a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 4th, 2014 at 2:00pm at the Tyee Yacht Club, 2929 NE Marine Drive, Portland, Or 97211. All are welcome!
Memorial donations may be made in Mike's name to the American cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
