CUBA --- Bernard L. Wheeler, 74, of 411 S. Seventh St., Cuba, died at 3:09 a.m. Thursday in the emergency room of the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minn. He had become ill while vacationing in nearby Richmond, Minn.
He was born Nov. 19, 1911 in Cuba, the son of William L. and Eliza (Frederick) Wheeler. He married Mildred Logan Dec 16, 1938, in Ft. Madison, Iowa. She survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Bernard D. of Normal, Randall from Naperville, and Thomas W. of Bolingbrook; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one grandson and three sisters.
He was a former employee at the Freeman United Coal Company's No. 9 and Banner mines as a night hostler. He was a member of the Cuba United Methodist Church, the Cuba Masonic Lodge, and the UMWA Local 7455.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Hukill-Henry Memorial Home, Cuba, the Rev. James Shearouse officiating.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the memorial home.
Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Cass-Putman Rescue Squad.
