Noel was the son of Adelbert Clark and Gladys (Maxedon) Thomas. Noel's mother died in 1941, when he was eight years old.
His father remarried in 1942, and the family moved to San Joaquin County, California. Noel grew up in and around Stockton, California and graduated from Stockton High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served with the U.S. Army for 23 years, during which he saw combat duty in Korea and Vietnam. SFC Noel D. Thomas worked for the U.S. Civil Service for an additional 20 years.
Noel D. Thomas married Karen B. Stahley on December 16, 1950 at Amador, California USA.
Noel and Karen had four children:
David George Thomas
Rhonda Kay "Squeaks" Thomas
He attained the Pilgrim Degree in the Loyal Order of the Moose and served as a State Officer, as well as Lodge #391 Governor.
Noel D. Thomas had 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held on Veterans Day, Thursday, November 11, 2010 at Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi, CA.
