Claude Edwin "Eddie" Merrill, 62 of Allen passed away February 20, 2014.
He was born March 22, 1951 in Germany. His parents were Sam D. and Clair Faye Parrish Merrill.
Eddie will be remembered for being a hard working, intelligent man who loved his family, was a loyal friend, and had a true heart for animals.
Eddie was well liked by all and known for being a prankster. As a school boy, Eddie was a good student earning many achievement awards. He was an avid sportsman, hunter and fisherman excelling at anything he put his mind to. From an early age, Eddie had a love for cars and motorcycles. He enjoyed working on vehicles, and this love became his life's career. During his life, he also worked for eleven years in law enforcement as Sheriff's Deputy and detention officer for Collin Co.
Eddie was an avid animal rights advocate. His love for animals may have begun when he was in the fourth grade and got a bird dog he named, "Brig." Brig was indeed Eddie's best friend and companion for the next 15 years. Eddie never owned another dog, however he dedicated many hours and funds to causes for animal rights such as the Best Friends Animal Society.
Mr. Merrill is survived by his daughter, Justy Scarbrough and her husband Brian; step-sister, Sharon Sinclair and Kenny; best friend, Richard Godwin; and numerous other family members and friends.
His parents preceded him in death.
A Memorial/Inurnment Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, February 28, 2014 at Pecan Gap Cemetery with Roger Ratliff officiating.
