JANET BOGGS

Fell asleep in Jesus, March 31st, 1893 in Franklin, W. Va., Janet Boggs, eldest daughter of William H. and Carrie Boggs in the 14th year of her age.

Dark is the shadow left on many sorrowing hearts by this sad bereavement, and our faith in our Saviour is put to its severest test. But He has made us feel his goodness and mercy, in this bitter trial, by not leaving us comfortless.

Dear little Janet was a child of the Covenant and a few months since, when in perfect health, before she had ever known a touch of care or sorrow, in the happy morning of life with all its bright and joyous anticipations, she gave her heart to her Saviour and publicly professed her faith in Him, uniting with the Presbyterian Church and dedicating her pure young life to His service who promised to keep her unspotted from the world. Lovely and graceful as the flowers, she loved so well, with a mind unusually bright, gifted in music and passionately fond of all things beautiful, she was yet unselfish and self sacrificing and thoughtful for others in a marked degree. As a daughter, sister and friend, she was most affectionate and helpful, the light and joy of her home, with a sweet patience which shone more and more brightly as her life drew to its close.

Her deep love for the Church and all its services, where her place was seldom vacant, gave promise of a rare usefulness, but to the Great Head of the Church it seemed best that she be with Him in His home above, and without a doubt or fear, calmly expressing her perfect trust in Him, she closed her eyes like a tired child and her sweet voice, which but a little while ago was singinging her favorite hymns on earth, now mingles with the voices of the redeemed around His throne in Heaven.

"The Master calls, she tarries not,
For he hath need of her above.
The lambs He gathers with His arm
No grief, no sin, no death can harm,
So safely folded on His breast,
For ever and for ever best
Could God Himself give more? His will
Is best, though we are weeping still.
