America was born in Bulloch Co. Georgia to Miles and Martha Richardson Waters.
In 1895, James Lee married America in Bulloch Co. Georgia.
In the 1900 census, they were living in Bay, Bulloch Co. and he worked as a farmer. They had two children: Rutha, born in April 1897 and Charley, born August 1899.
On James' WW1 draft card dated Sept 12, 1918, he states they live in Brooklet, Ga and he works as a farmer.
By 1910, Rutha had died and they also had Jobie, a son, aged 7; Leslie, a son aged 5; and Frank, a son, aged 3.
In 1930, they lived in Savannah, Chatham Co. Georgia. James worked as a "bagmaker" in a factory. The children at home are: Leslie, Frank, a daughter Sybil aged 19, and a daughter, Martha J., aged 16. Frank worked as a collector for the gas company and Sybil worked as a hat blocker for the laundry. America, Leslie and Martha didn't work.
