Bobby (Robert Andrew) Parker of Mer Rouge, Louisiana, was born on August 24, 1955, in Bastrop, Louisiana. He grew up on his family's farm on the Bonne Idee in Mer Rouge and always enjoyed being on the Bonne Idee throughout his life. He passed away at home in the Village of Mer Rouge on June 13, 2015. Bobby was a farmer and businessman. He attended school in Mer Rouge and at Prairie View Academy. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and joy for living. Bobby gave of his time teaching youngsters sportsmanship and skills for enjoying the great outdoors, especially deer hunting. Bobby is survived by his wife, Dr. Cathy Parker of Mer Rouge; parents William Hugh and Dot Parker of Mer Rouge and Imogene Rawls of Rayville; children, Andrew Parker and Brooke Parker of Calhoun and Beth Sanders of Richland Parish; brothers, John Parker of Clarksville, Arkansas, and Kendall Parker and wife, Donna, of Mer Rouge; grandchildren, Colby and Cameron Sanders of Richland Parish; step-sister, Jan Haneline and husband, Richard, of Monroe; father-in-law, John Hickingbottom of Bastrop; brother-in-law, John Hickingbottom II and wife, Stacci, of Bastrop; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Sykes and husband, Larry, of Swartz. He is also survived by a special niece with whom he shared many happy times, Bonnie Crumpton Campbell of Shreveport. Bobby was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Robert and Gladys Parker; maternal grandparents, Andrew and Annie Harrell; and mother-in-law, Nannie Lee Janes. A memorial service will be held at the Mer Rouge United Methodist Church Saturday, June 20, at 2:00 PM. The service will be conducted by the Reverend Molly McGee. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 PM until time of the service in the church fellowship hall. A private committal service will be held at Mer Rouge Cemetery. Bobby was thankful for his friends and neighbors who visited, sent well-wishes, offered up prayers, and provided comfort to him and his family during his illness. Among those going extra miles were Tommy H.B. Rankin, Jr., Pam and Steve Hansen, and Vicki Gregory. Also, during the last month of his life, the staff of Premier Hospice provided compassionate care. For those who wish, memorials may be made to Oak Woods of Mer Rouge Rehab and Wellness, 1400 Davenport Avenue, Mer Rouge, LA 71261. Oak Woods is a non-profit organization sponsored by the Mer Rouge Lions Club of which Bobby was member. Services are under the direction of Cox Funeral Home Home of Bastrop.
