MARSHALLTOWN - Helen A. Aldinger, 82, of Marshalltown, formerly of Ackley, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. Services will be held Thursday, Sept. 26, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown with interment at 3 p.m. at St. Peter's United Church of Christ Cemetery, Geneva. Rev. Jerald Swanberg will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 - 9 p.m. at the Pursel-Davis Funeral Home in Marshalltown with the family present from 6 - 8 p.m. There will be an Order of Eastern Star service at 5:30 p.m.

Helen Arlene was born March 30, 1920, in Alden to Fred and Ellen Nelsen Lawton. She graduated from the Alden High School in 1937. She was employed by the Popejoy School as a bus driver and worked many years at the Junction Truck Stop on Highway 65/20. On Aug. 26, 1960, she married Ernest Aldinger at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They farmed near Ackley until 1993 when they retired and moved to Marshalltown. She was active in St. Peter's United Church of Christ at Geneva and was a member of Circle Ruth and Tri-M's at the Methodist Church in Marshalltown. Helen was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America, Farm Bureau, MMSC Auxiliary, Iowa Falls Moose, Order of the Eastern Star and White Shrine where she had served as Worthy Matron. She had a passion for flowers, music and all living things.

She is survived by a son, Jerry Ellingson, and wife Anita of Marshalltown; two daughters, Jo Ellen (Ellingson) and husband John Nankivell of Newton and Shonda Deranleau and husband Robert of Creston; five grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; one great-grandchild; a sister, Irene Klein, of Iowa Falls; and a brother, Harold "Bud" Lawton, and wife Shirley of Fairfield Bay, Ark. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ernest in 1998) and husband Alvin Ellingson (1951).
