Harold James Cook Obituary

Harold James Cook, only son of Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Cook, was born near Doland, S.D., June 11, 1890, and died at Asbury hospital in Minneapolis at ten minutes before 7 o'clock on Thursday morning, March 16, 1911, being 20 years, 9 months and 2 days old.

He came to Northville with his parents in the fall of 1891, and resided here until his death. He suffered from a long, lingering illness which began about November 1 and steadily advanced from state to stage despite all efforts of physicians here to check it.

On March 9, his parents, acting on the advice of Drs. Deertz and Sampson, and hoping that he might get relief from his suffering sent him to Asbury hospital in care of Rev. J. M. Hunter.

But though he was under the care of one of the best physicians in Minneapolis, who twice called in consultation the most eminent nerve and brain specialists in the city they were unable to locate the seat of the trouble and so could do nothing whatever for his relief. After his death, an autopsy was held which disclosed a small abscess in the upper lumbar vertebrae which involved the spinal cord and finally the brain itself, causing the terrible headaches from which he suffered, then delirium and death.

He joined the Methodist Episcopal church during the revivals conducted here while Rev. Kerr was pastor.

He received a common school education in the schools of (Gair) district and the High school of Northville.

The funeral services were held in the M. E. church, Rev. Hunter officiating, at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon. It seemed as if the whole countryside was present at the services judging from those who gathered at the church and followed the remains in the cemetery where the burial took place in the family plot.
