In loving memory of Walker D. Manley, 93, who died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012 at TruCare Living Center.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012 at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery with Monsignor Zacharias Kunnakkattuthara of Sacred Heart Catholic Church officiating.

Walker was born Jan. 28, 1919 in Palestine, Texas, the first born of three sons to Q.D. and Kittie Bell Manley. He served his country during World War II as a civilian working in naval shipyards in California before joining the Army in 1943 and serving in the Pacific theatre for the duration of the war.

On May 5, 1946, he was united in marriage to his beloved wife Marguerite, whom he met in New Orleans before he began his 24-month Pacific deployment in 1943. They raised three sons and a daughter, making their home in Palestine and California before settling permanently in Palestine in 1960.

Walker was well known in business as a first-rate plumber and builder. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. For many years, he was a great supporter of Westwood Panthers Booster Club, serving as president from 1964-66. A life-long avid reader, Walker was well known at the Palestine Public Library. Several years ago he was recognized as being one of the three top readers at the library.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marguerite; son, Gregory Thomas Manley; daughter-in-law, CyAnn Manley; grandson, Daniel Taylor; and great-grandson, Timothy Manley.

Survivors include sons, Walker D. "Sonny" Manley Jr. and wife Dolores of Missouri City, Texas; Don Manley and wife Rachel of McGregor, Texas; and daughter, Linda Taylor and husband Robert of Palestine, Texas.

He was a loving grandfather of 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was a true friend to many people and will be missed by all.
