Mrs. Jackie Allen Bragg, age 78, died Thursday afternoon at her residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County was the daughter of the late Levy and Zada Tucker Allen. Jackie was a 1950 Honor Graduate of Metter High School. In 1951 she married Emitt Bragg and the two made their home near Statesboro. Jackie was a homemaker, assisted her husband on their family farm and in his machine shop. In the late 1970's they invented the gauge shoe for John Deere Planters. After receiving a patent on the product, they manufactured the gauge shoe for John Deere dealers throughout the southeastern United States. In the late 1980's, they sold the gauge shoe business and patent but continued the machine shop, farming and raising livestock. She was a member of the Clito Baptist Church. Jackie and Emit enjoyed many years of extensive travel, fishing and gardening. Emitt preceded her in death on June 20th, 2010.
Surviving are a sister, Martha Sherman of Metter; a brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Jack and Ruth Bragg of Statesboro and Eloise McGehee of Athens. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will be Saturday from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
Funeral services will be Sunday at 2:00pm in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. J.D. Turner officiating, assisted by Rev. Dan Zellner.
Entombment will be in the Bulloch Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Clito Baptist Church Deacons.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Clito Baptist Church Building Fund, 10062 Clito Road, Statesboro, Ga. 30458 or Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, Ga. 30459.
