Martha Galloway married George Alfred Bala on November 13, 1901 at Logan, Otsego County, Michigan- a small settlement community located just outside of Vanderbilt, Michigan. The wedding took place at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas M Galloway, the bride's parents. Their attendents were William Galloway (the brides brother) and Claudia Bala (the Groom's sister). It is interesting to note that on May 7, 1902, the attendents, William Galloway and Claudia Bala would themselves be married in Vanderbilt, Michigan.

Martha and George built a home in Logan and the following Christmas Eve a daughter was born there. The baby was named Martha Sophia after her maternal and paternal grandmothers. Three years later a son, James Edward, was also born there and named after his paternal grandfather.

George Bala worked in the lumber camps and on the railroad while he resided in Michigan. He later moved his family to Fair Haven, Cayuga County, New York. It was in Fair Haven, New York that their other four sons were born- Howard Belmont, George Edward (who died as an infant), Kenneth Earl and George Clifford.
