Leo Echo Hawk, lifetime resident of Pawnee, 70, died Tuesday night and services were held Friday, Nov. 29. Born in Pawnee on Sept. 30, 1904, he attended schools here and married Lida Howell on Mar. 9, 1935 at Morrison.
He was a member of the Pawnee tribe of Indians and of the Christian church.
Survivors include his wife Lida Howell EchoHawk of the home in Pawnee and a daughter (from his first marriage to Marie Cecial Sheats), Mrs. Carrie (EchoHawk) Webb, plus 8 grandchildren. Leo and Marie Cecial Sheats were married on September 25, 1924, in Pawnee County, Oklahoma.
Also surviving are a number of great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Floyd Freeman, pastor of the Pawnee Indian Baptist Church, officiated at the service at the
Poteet Funeral Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, and interment was in the South Indian cemetery under direction of the Poteet Funeral Home.
