Hugh died of Typhoid fever at the home of his sister Lula and brother in law Fred Key. He contracted the fever while working on a road construction crew in Denton County, Texas. (per death ceertificate )

Hugh Brockman, 24, died last Monday at the home of his sister, Mrs. Fred Key. His death is attributed to Malaria which he took ill 6 weeks ago in Denton, Texas where he was a member of a road construction crew. The physicians in Denton diagnosed the case as chills and fever, but later informed him that he was suffering from an attack of Malaria fever. Upon his arrival in Mason, he was taken to the home of his sister, and local physicians were called in, but said his condition has worsened. Hugh Brockman was the only son of H.O. Brockman, a prominent and highly respected family of Mason County and who lived northeast of Mason, Texas. Survived by his parents; seven sisters- Mrs Fred Key, Mrs Robert Leifeste, Mrs Henry Holloway, Mrs August Simon, Mrs Charles Bailey, Mrs Harold Mellington, Mis Grace Brockman. Services were held in Gooch Cemetery officated by Rev W.H. Gage, pastor of the Mason Baptist Church.
