W.R. Baker Dies Of Heart Trouble
William Richard Baker of 38 West Broadway, aged 68, a D&H employe 50 years and an Oneonta resident over 41 years, died at 12:15 yesterday afternoon at the Locke nursing home, West Oneonta, of heart trouble and complications. He had been in failing health about a year, and had been confined to bed eight weeks.
The funeral will be held at 2 Friday at the Bookhout funeral home, 357 Main, with Rev. H.C. Myers, River Street Baptist pastor, officiating, and burial in Oneonta Plains cemetery. Friends may call at the Bookhout home Thrusday evening between 7 and 9.
Mr. Baker was born at Sutton Valence, Kent, England, March 22, 1872, son of Richard and Rebecca (Tamsett) Baker. The family came to the United States in the fall of 1885, and lived for a time at Cooperstown, where Mr. Baker married Miss Sarah Strong October 20, 1893. She died April 9, 1937.
He retired from D&H service some years ago, as a hostler. He was a member of the B of LF&E, Third Separate company, and River Street Baptist church, and sang in the church choir. A lover of the out-of-doors, he was an enthusiastic gardener and took special pride in his flowers.
Surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. John Schaffer, 20 Fonda, and Mrs. Basil Anderson, 10 Telford; three sons, Francis and John Baker, 38 West Broadway, and Aaron Baker, 15 Pearl; a sister, Mrs. Edward Blanchard, Unadilla; several nieces and nephews, including Kenneth Baker, 18 West Boradway, who made his home with him for some time, and 21 grandchildren.
