Charles H. Barney
LEBANON, Mo. - Charles H. Barney, 36, of Lebanon, Mo., formerly of West Oneonta, died Monday, July 27, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 15, 1945, in Oneonta, the son of Harold and Cora (Green) Barney.
He was a graduate of Oneonta High School, class of 1962, where he was editor of the school newspaper, a member of the National Honor Society, and class valedictorian.
He later graduated from Syracuse University in 1966, magna cum laude, with a B.S. degree in journalism. While attending college, he was editor of the university's newspaper, and later he was employed with the Syracuse Post-Standard as a reporter.
At the university, he was a member of Sigma Delta Chi-Journalism Honorary Society, and a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
He served with the U.S. Army in Germany during the Vietnam War. After his military career, he was employed with the Empire Gas Corp., Lebanon, Mo., where he was corporate secretary.
He is survived by his parents; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Esther) Reynolds, Otego; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, July 30, at Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta, with the Rev. Randy M. Keeley, pastor of the West Oneonta Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in West Oneonta Cemetery.
Friends may call after 7 p.m., Wednesday, and until service time Thursday, at the funeral home.
