Obituary: Clarence Gardner passed away, surrounded by family on March 13, 2004 in Chico, California at the age of 85. Clarence was born February 2, 1920 in Carnegie, Oklahoma to Leslie H. and Josie E. Gardner. A Chico resident since 1958, Clarence operated his own floor covering business until his retirement in 1982. He enjoyed his family and friends and spent most of his retirement years golfing, fishing, traveling, and playing his guitar. He was a member of Chico Elks Lodge, SIRS 110 and American Legion, VFW, and DAV. Clarence was a veteran of WWII serving in the Marine Corps from July 1940 to July 1946.

Clarence is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruth Elaine Gardner; his children Ruth Begell (Rick) of Vacaville, Calif., Clarice Pomada (Bob) of Bothell, Wash., Christy Gardner-Bond (George) of Dixon, Calif., Vance Gardner (Cheryl) of St. Helens, Ore., and Owen Gardner (Karen) of Red Bluff; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Faye Allen of Mercer Island, Wash. and Jo Grubbs (John) of Austin, Texas; brother and sister-in-law Dee and Yvonne Cullison from Chico; sister-in-law, Virginia Gardner from Glendale, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews. His love of life and sense of humor will be missed by all whose lives he touched. A celebration of life will be held for family and friends at a later date. Charitable contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the donor's favorite charity in care of Bidwell Chapel

His ashes, along with those of his wife Ruth Elaine Cullison were scattered from the vessel, Hokua, into the Pacific Ocan off the cost of Maui, Hawaii at 1735 hours on 4 Nov 2012. Latitude: 20°44.331' North, Longitude: 156°28.28265'.
