She was retired from the Owensboro School System as a lunchroom worker having worked at Sutton Elementary School and Owensboro Middle School. She was a member of Lewis Lane Baptist Church, loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, and was very involved with the American Cancer Society's "Relay For Life". She also enjoyed working in her yard and going shopping. She was preceded in death by her father, James W. Lawson and a daughter, Jan Cooper in 2008.
Surviving are her husband of 51 years, John R. Allen, a daughter, Nancy (Tom) Sparks and of Owensboro, her mother, Nancy Lawson of Lewisport, six grandchildren, Megan Hamilton, Michael King, Derik Horne, Seth Sparks, Zachary and John Cooper, four great grandchildren, Hadley Horne, and Carter, Jayden, and Kinsley Hamilton, a brother, Bob (Marilyn) Lawson of Hawesville, and four sisters, Sandy Estes of Hawesville, Lori (Darrell) Estes of Lewisport, Pam (Jim) Hunt of Utica, and Cindy Lawson of Somerset.
Services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 6, at with burial following in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Monday and after 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.
