Basil Neal Eldridge was born July 30, 1937 in Bastrop, Morehouse Parish, Louisiana and he died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, at his home in Vicksburg, Mississippi at age 73. He was the son of John Don Eldridge, Senior and Annie Beatrice McAdams of Morehouse Parish. He was the grandson of James Mixon Eldridge/Mary Elizabeth Parker and Thomas Beachum McAdams, Junior/Olivia "Ollie" Davis all of Morehouse Parish, Louisiana. He was named for his great-grandfather, Basil Neal Davis, father of Olivia Davis. He married Martha Jon Gremillion in 1960 and they had three children. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from Louisiana Tech University in 1961. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving as a first lieutenant from March 1961 until March 1964. He was known for his optimistic attitude and kind, non-judgmental friendship. He was also known as a scratch golfer and avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He managed chemical plants and was very successful as a self-employed salesman.
