Born Effie Estella Carroll to Stephen Bennett and Martha Jane Marley Carroll and known as Stella to family and friends. At an early age Stella Carroll showed her Pioneer Spirit when she traveled with her Mother and siblings to Grandfalls, Ward County, Texas in a covered wagon during a snow storm in the winter of 1915.
She married 38 year old Columbus Chapel 'Chappo' Pittman, in August 1916 at the age of 16. They had six children and lived in Grandfalls, Texas until their divorce in 1934.
Stella Carroll Pittman married Albert Glen Jeffords in El Paso, Texas, and once again her Pioneer Spirit found her as an early settler in Anchorage, Alaska. Stella and Glen made their home in Anchorage and had one son, Ira Glen 'Jim Bob' Jeffords.
Obituary Excerpts-Anchorage Daily Times May 1, 1962 Funeral services conducted for Mrs. Estella Jeffords Thursday at Evergreen Memorial Chapel. Mrs. Jeffords died Sunday at Providence Hospital at the age of 61. Born in Jacksboro, Texas , June 22, 1900, Mrs. Jeffords has resided in Anchorage for the past 17 years. She was employed as a custodian for the Anchorage Independent School District.
Surviving are her widower, Glenn; three daughters, Mrs. Beatrice Sanders of Dennison, Tex., Mrs. Irene Sinks of Oakland, Calif.,and Mrs. May Hutchinson, of Corpus Christi, Tex., and four sons, Ira G. Jeffords of Anchorage, Bennett Pittman of Platter, Okla., Willard Pittman of Grandfalls, Tex., and MD Pittman of Coyanosa, Tex.
