The K-9 Officer's Pledge
I promise to be worth every cent of the $10,000 it took to train me.
I promise to track down criminals who threaten and harm our community.
I promise to stand with you against the violence that penetrates our society.
I promise to sniff out the drugs being advertised to your children.
I promise to stay resolved and focused upon the success of our mission.
No matter what happens, I will be by your side …
Your loyal companion until the very end.
I will never leave your side ...
I will never waiver ...
I will never give up.

Dozens of supporters from law enforcement agencies throughout the region gathered Thursday morning, May 23, 2013 at the Shreveport Regional Police and Fire Training Academy to bid a final farewell to one of their own.
Shreveport Police Officer K-9 Mico was laid to rest on the academy grounds at the SPD K-9 Rest Cemetery. Mico was a beloved member of the Shreveport Police Department's Tactical K-9 Unit and served faithfully and valiantly until his death. Mico, who succumbed to a brief illness, was an eight year old Belgian Malinois, who served on the department for five years. Together with his handler, Cpl Christopher Yarborough, Mico, during his career was responsible for the arrest and apprehension of countless felony suspects and the discovery of tens of thousands of dollars in illegal narcotics. Known for his prowess in battle, Mico never cowered under duress or at the responsibility of protecting fellow law officers in the event it became necessary.
The uncompromising loyalty and courage displayed by Mico will forever be remembered and respected by the Shreveport Police Department and its employees. K-9 Mico, EOW (End of Watch) 15 May 2013.
A Working Dog's Oath
I will lay down my life for you
and expect nothing but love in return.
I protect my officer with my life,
and would gladly take a bullet in his place.
I am sent in to find lost children
and fugitives on the run.
I find drugs and weapons and even bombs.
I am the first sent in
and sometimes the last to leave.
I am the nose and ears of my officer.
I will protect and serve him.
I would die for him and for you.
I only ask for compassion and a kind word.
