Clarence L. Burlo, 93, of Villa Drive, Hurley, died Sunday evening, Feb. 3, 2002, at Villa Maria Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hurley. He was born Jan. 13, 1909, in Egg Harbor, Wis., son of the late August and Marceline (Girard) Burlo. He attended Green Bay, Wis., schools, and the Milwaukee School of Engineering. He was then employed as a troubleshooter at the shipyards in Sturgeon Bay, Wis. He also taught welding in the shipyards in Sawyer, Wis., for a short time. Charence moved to north Bessemer in 1946, then to Saxon, Wis., in 1953. There, he was self-employed in farming, and was a welding instructor at Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College in Superior, Wis. He retired in 1969 and moving to Mullan, Idaho. He then moved to Hurley in 1987. Clarence was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley. He enjoyed welding, fishing and gardening.
On Sept. 13, 1934, he was married to the former Charlotte A. Huntowski, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Green Bay. She preceded him in death on May 6, 1999. Survivors include a son, Richard (Cathy), Green Bay, Wis.; two daughters, Phyllis (Ronald) Hautala, Mullan, Idaho, and Joan (Eugene) Luma, Saxon, Wis.; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great great grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, Clarence was preceded in death by brothers, Charles, William, Edward, and Fred, and sisters Elizabeth Simon and Mary Bonneville.
