Larry W. Bassett, 56, of Hicksville, Ohio, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at his home after a two-year battle with cancer. He was born June 15, 1948, in Antwerp, Ohio, to Basil and Alice (Winters) Bassett. They preceded him in death.
Mr. Bassett was employed as a welder at Vulcraft in St. Joe. He was a member of Central Mennonite Church in Fort Wayne. He graduated from Woodlan High School in 1966 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam from 1968-1969.
He married Della Miller on Aug. 19, 1972, and she survives.
Also surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Brian Tope of Paulding, Ohio; two sons, Eric of Napoleon, Ohio, and his companion, Jessica Bayliss, and Brian of Hicksville and his companion, Jamie Savage; two grandchildren, Megan and Logan Tope; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol and Jerry Gambrell of Stony Ridge, Ohio, and Janice and John Campbell of Fort Wayne; and three brothers and sisters-in-law, Duane and Sheila and Dave and Michelle, all of Hicksville, and Jim and Joy of Hamilton.
Calling will be today from 5 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 2 to 9 p.m. at Smith & Brown Funeral Home, 706 N. Main St., Hicksville. Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in Central Mennonite Church, 5801 Schwartz Road, Fort Wayne, with Pastor Don Delagrange officiating.
Burial will be in Six Corners Cemetery at Hicksville.
