1842 Dec 17 - Fleming's mother, Theresa, died before this date as this is when Fleming's father remarried in Alcorn Co., Mississippi, a Mary Ann King.
1850 - US Census - 11 yrs., Fleming was living with his brother - James W. 10 yrs.; grandmother - Bridget Devinney, 70 yrs; aunt - Elizabeth Devinney, 46 years; uncle - Light Devinney, 39 years; uncle - Manuel Devinney, 25 years. (Census spelled name "Devina")
1857 - Fleming moved to Texas, 18 yrs. old (according to 1869 Texas Voter Registration, he had been residing in Texas for 12 years)
1858 July 13 - Hopkins Co., Texas, Fleming married Sidney Taylor Millholland, daughter of Levi Millholland and Sarah Jane Lindley.
1860 - US Census; Fleming, 22, and Sidney, 17, living n farm near current community of Drop, in Denton Co., Texas with their daughter, Sarah, 1.
1862 Feb 8 - SOLDIER IN CONFEDERATE STATES ARMY Mustered in at Denton, Texas into the 17th Consolidated Regiment, Texas Dismounted Cavalry.
Served in Co. G, 18th Texas Cavalry, Darnell's Regiment which became Co. H, Granbury's Consolidated Texas Brigade in 1865.
1870 - US Census; Fleming, 32, and wife, Sidney, 28, are living in Wilson County, Texas with their children, Sallie, 11; James, 3; and Judith, 1. (Two of their daughters, Margaret Jane & Eldretty "Lizzy" have died).
1880 - US Census; Fleming is 41, and living with wife, Sidney, 36, in Floresville, Wilson County, Texas, with their children, James, 13; Jasper, 11; Van Newton, 8; and Myrtis, 4.
1891 April 8 - Fleming's occupation was a Carpenter and a Steeple Jack. Family story is that he fell to his death from a building on a construction site. (Please contact me (Cindy) if you have any information to share on this).

The Derrick family line can be traced back to Johann Simon Derk (Derrick), born 1718 in Prussia (Germany) and came to America on the ship 'St. Andrew' in 1738. He died in 1787 and is buried in Old Pine Church in Frederick Co., Virginia.
