After the death of Obie, Carroll Clyde married Marion Clark Hammock. It was believed that he was having an affair with her prior to Obie's suicide. Marion already had two sons: John Maxwell Hammock, 11/9/1937 and Richard Hammock, 1/26/41. It is believed that Richard was Carroll Clyde's biological son. Carroll Clyde was a very suspicious and jealous person. On 1/6/47, he met Marion when she stepped off the bus in Montezuma coming back from Macon, shot her with a shotgun killing her and then turned the gun on himself.
