She was born August 27, 1936, in Sarepta, Louisiana, to Camille Staten Smith and Oliver Smith and has been a resident of the Lumberton area for many years. Betty worked as an insurance agent. She is survivd by her husband, Jone Ray Carruth of Lumberton; children, Celia Burrows and Darren Carruth and his wife Andrea both of Lumberton; grandchildren, Celena Hinton, Chase Burrows, Justin Carruth, Bryant Carruth, and Matthew Carruth; sisters, Joyce Henson of Bivins, Texas and Ernestine Pickard of Sarepta, Louisiana; and brother, Reed Smith of Atlanta, Texas. Her funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 21, 2010, at Broussard's, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee with burial to follow at R. S. Farmer Cemetery in Silsbee. A gathering of her family and friends will be 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Monday, December 20, 2010, at Broussard's.
