Ben and Leona were united in marriage on May 20, 1928. They had three children: Constance, Gary and Benadene.
My grandmother was a great lady. She was a single mother and raised three children on her own. She was widowed at a young age when her husband, Benjamin Boerman, died of peritonitis due to a ruptured appendix.
When grandma was a teenager, she worked as an usherette in a movie theater in San Francisco, Ca. I believe the theater was on Market or Mission st. After my Grandfather died, she took a variety of jobs to support her young family. Her last job that she held was executive secretary to the president of Cal Poly University in San Luis Obispo, Ca., for over 20 years. She loved to travel and went to Europe several times. She also took a trip to Africa and went on a canoe ride down one of the rivers there.
I will also remember her for her graciousness and her love for her family. Also, for her wonderful blue eyes that could stop you in your tracks if you did something wrong. My siblings and cousins know what I am talking about!! Lol :).
Grandma loved to go dancing and was very good at waltzing. Her favorite song to waltz to was the "Tennessee Waltz".
She was a wonderful lady and her family loved and misses her so much.
See you again in GLORY, Grandma! XOXOXO!!!
