Floyd W. Allison, age 83, of Marion, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2012 at his residence.

A native of McDowell County, Floyd was born November 26, 1928 and was a son of the late William Thomas Allison and Helen Garland Allison.

He was a US Army Veteran having served in the Korean War. After serving two years in service he started working at Burlington Industries as a supervisor for nineteen years and later owned and operated a used car lot until his retirement.

He enjoyed doing volunteer work at the church and was a big part in raising money for the mission fund. He was well known for his homemade apple butter. He enjoyed raising a garden each year and he shared his produce with many of his family and friends.

He was a friend to many people. He will be remembered by his family as a great and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather whom he loved very much. His family meant the world to him, and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Floyd was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Newton and an infant brother James Allison.

Saddened by the loss of Floyd includes his wife of 61 years, two daughters, three grandchildren, five great grandchildren, two brothers, one sister, and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 4:00 pm at Clinchfield United Methodist Church.

Interment was Monday, February 6, 2012 at 11:00 am at McDowell Memorial Park with military honors provided.
Floyd married Barbara Fender on 3 Jun 1950 at Morganton, Burke County.
